What is NanoteC exactly ?
We are pleased to announce NanoteC24 at the Institute of Materials (IMN) in Nantes, France from Tuesday 27th August to Friday 30th August 2024.
One of the longest running carbon nanoscience conferences in Europe, since 1998 NanoteC has been bringing together scientists working in carbon science at the nanoscale: nanotubes, fullerenes, nanohorns, graphene, nanowires, sp3 forms, etc. While each of these materials has its own dedicated research community, NanoteC draws on common themes and allows researchers to share insight into this unique element at the nanoscale.
The NanoteC conferences are renowned for their relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with emphasis on discussion and participation. We endeavour to achieve as much student participation as possible, and we anticipate that the keynote talks will be strongly influential on the next generation of nanotechnology scientists.
Conference topics include, but are not limited to:
Synthesis and characterisation of carbon nanomaterials
New chemical routes to novel nanocarbons (cycloparaphenylenes, nanocones, nanoscrolls, ...)
Fullerene science and technology, carbon astrochemistry
Graphene and carbon nanotubes
Nanomanipulation of nanocarbons
sp3 nanocarbons (nanodiamonds, ...)
Optical and electronic properties of carbon nanomaterials
New nanocarbon based devices (sensors, detectors, PV, fuel cells, electrodes, supercapacitors, ...)
Nanocarbon hybrid materials (nanotube filling, ...)
Computational modelling and simulation of nanocarbons
Graphene Oxide and related 2D materials
Industrial materials engineering, production scale-up, purification, treatment and recycling
Toxicology, bio-compatibility and bio-composites
Nantes
This year the conference is returning again to Nantes, the ancient capital of Brittany in the West of France. It will be hosted in the Institute of Materials Jean Rouxel (IMN), on the science campus of Nantes University, on the north side of Nantes city centre.
Conference Venue: Institut des Materiaux de Nantes Jean Rouxel (IMN), 2 Rue de la Houssiniere, 44322 Nantes, FRANCE

How to reach Nantes
Train
The high-speed TGV train is 2h15 from Paris “Montparnasse” station to Nantes, there are trains roughly every 30-60 minutes. There is also a direct train from Paris airport (“aeroport charles de gaulle”) to Nantes that takes about 3 hours.
Bus
Flixbus and BlaBla have bus services that run between most major French cities. They are much cheaper than the train but quite slow.
Bla bla car
This is a car sharing application that allows you to take a lift with someone driving your way. Reasonably priced and used much more in France than in the UK for example, it is quite a convenient way to travel.
Ferry
There are several ferry services from the UK, such as a Brittany Ferries route from Portsmouth to Caen, or to Saint Malo. From Caen to Nantes is three hours drive, from Saint Malo it is just over two hours. As well as several day ferries per day, there are also night ferries which can be very convenient and comfortable, particularly if you book a cabin on the boat.
Flight (Not recommended unless you are travelling from another continent)
Nantes airport is served by many standard and low-cost airlines. Otherwise flights go via Paris. Rennes airport is just over an hour from Nantes.
How to reach the Institute?

There is more !!
If you're feeling courageous enough, you will be able to enjoy a charming jazz festival named "Rdv de l'Erdre" which will take place at the same time as NanoteC in Nantes from 26th August to 1st September (www.rendezvouserdre.com/ ). The name says it all, it's mostly jazz music played all around the river named Erdre, on its docks and banks but also on the river itself (which is frankly lovely to witness). There is also lots of amazing street food from around the world.
